Welcome to ART-WiSe Framework web page!

The ART-WiSe (Architecture for Real-Time communication in Wireless Sensor
networks)
research framework aims at devising new communication architectures and
mechanisms in order to improve the Quality-of-Service (QoS) in
large-scale distributed embedded systems, such as in Wireless Sensor
Networks (WSNs).
Our research differs from others mainly due to the merging of two
concerns: 1) to achieve traffic differentiation and time-bounded
communications in these large-scale networked resource constrained
systems; and 2) to rely on standard communication protocols and
commercial-off-the-shelf technologies.
For this purpose, we are pursuing a multiple-tiered communication
architecture building on the IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee protocols for the
lower Tier (sensor network) and on the IEEE 802.11 protocol for the
higher Tier (backbone). Results attained so far on the use of the
ZigBee for WSNs (check our open source toolset) with real-time requirements are quite encouraging, but many challenges are yet to be addressed.
For more details, refer to the About page and to the ART-WiSe Framework presentation.
If you are interested in collaborating with us or looking for a
undergraduate, MSc, PhD or post-doc research position in our group,
please send an e-mail to cister-info at isep.ipp.pt.
